Ambassador Lina Omar attended the opening of a cultural landmark in Plovdiv

Ambassador Lina Omar attended the opening ceremony of a cultural and historical landmark in the city of Plovdiv – the Episcopal Basilica of Philippopolis dating from the late IV and early V century, which makes it the largest early Christian basilica building in Bulgaria and one of the most largest in the Balkans. US Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Hero Mustafa, the Mayor of Plovdiv Mr. Zdravko Dimitrov and the President of the America for Bulgaria Foundation Mrs. Nancy Schiller cut the ribbon on the Basilica.  The event was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, ambassadors, diplomats and other guests.

After many years of efforts of the public and private sector and with the participation of a number of companies in Bulgaria, it became possible to open this important historical monument of culture, included in the UNESCO list. In 2019.

The city of Plovdiv was chosen as (European Capital of Culture) due to its long history, being considered as the oldest populated city in Europe.
