Ambassador Lina Omar met with the Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski “Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov at the University Rector’s Office. During the meeting, Ambassador Lina Omar expressed her satisfaction with the meeting and stressed her readiness for further strengthening of educational and cultural ties between Iraq and Bulgaria, and pointed out the opportunities for bilateral exchange of scientific experience, visits and training seminars for students and teachers between Sofia University and prestigious Iraqi universities such as the University of Baghdad and Al-Mustansiriya University, etc. Ambassador Lina Omar expressed hope that more and more Iraqi students will be able to be admitted to Sofia University in a wide range of specialties, pointing out the need to ease the procedure for Iraqi students to stay in Bulgaria in the future due to the difficulties they face. during their stay in the country.
H.E. Mrs. Lina Omar also invited the rector of Sofia University to visit Iraq and get acquainted with the educational practices used in Iraq.
For his part, Prof. Gerdjikov welcomed the Ambassador and congratulated her on her appointment as Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria and her role in intensifying cultural cooperation between Iraq and Bulgaria and expressed readiness for its development. The Rector expressed hope that the obstacles that the Iraqi student Bulgaria may face in the future will disappear.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Gerdjikov presented a book from Sofia University in English as a gift to the Iraqi Embassy in gratitude for the efforts and expressed interest in the cultural sphere, and in particular for the efforts of Ambassador Lina Omar to overcome difficulties for Iraqi students.
