Meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Mariya Gabriel on the occasion of “International Women’s Day

H.E. Mrs. Lina Omar, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Republic of Bulgaria met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Mariya Gabriel, during the celebration of the “International Women’s Day”.

The initiative was entirely organized by the young girls who won the “Women and Diplomacy – Ambassador for a Day” competition.

In her speech, Mrs. Mariya Gabriel thanked H.E. Mrs. Andrea Ikic-Böhm, Ambassador of Austria to Bulgaria, and to all female Ambassadors, for the energy and dedication to the cause of more young people in international relations. “Women are strength, energy and wealth,” said Mariya Gabriel.

She emphasized that foreign policy needs greater female representation not only to make valuable contributions, but also to serve as role models for young girls and women around the world. “Together we sent a strong message to all talented young women that we need their creativity and critical thinking in order to successfully overcome the challenges in Bulgaria, Europe and the world,” concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.

 The event was attended by female heads of diplomatic missions in Sofia, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
