The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, Mrs. Lina Omar, met with the Director of the Middle East and Africa Directorate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Lina Omar held a courtesy meeting with the Director of the Middle East and Africa Directorate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Lyubomir Popov.
During the meeting, Ambassador Lina Omar reviewed the history of relations between Iraq and Bulgaria and the need for their development, especially in areas such as the economy and trade. H.E. Mrs. Lina Omar outlined to her interlocutor the need to open a consular office at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Baghdad in order to facilitate the issuance of entry visas and other consular services, and highlighted the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which will facilitate the issuance of entry visas for investors. The possibility of opening a future direct flight between the two countries was also discussed.
During the meeting, Ambassador Lina Omar expressed her gratitude the Director of the Middle East and Africa Directorate, Mr. Popov, for the support of the Bulgarian government in removing the name of Iraq from the list of high-risk countries in the field of money laundering and financing of terrorism.
For his part, Ambassador Popov welcomed Ambassador Lina Omar and congratulated her on her appointment as an Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, wishing her a successful mandate.
The need to further development and intesivity of the relations between the two countries was also discussed at the meeting.
