Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Iraq meets with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism
Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov. During the meeting, aspects of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) were discussed in various relevant fields.
The Chargé d’Affaires praised the roles played by the Counter-Terrorism Office, through cooperation and partnership with Iraqi government institutions, in the areas of supporting national capabilities, plans and programs in the context of combating terrorism and its consequences. Pointing out that Iraq has become an international model, through its programs and plans related to combating terrorism, looking forward to the support of the United Nations and its institutions for these programs, which are part of the measures of collective international efforts in confronting terrorism, its challenges and its repercussions. Emphasizing the importance of concerted international efforts and calling on countries to take their nationals, children and women, from Al-Hawl camp.
For his part, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, praised the progress achieved and the positive changes that Iraq has witnessed due to accumulated experience in the field of combating terrorism, expressing the readiness of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism to strengthen the work of its office in Baghdad and to continue providing support and technical assistance to Iraq in many fields.
