Chargé d’Affairs meets with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs

Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, met with Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs.

During the meeting, Iraq’s relations with the United Nations, its agencies and programs, the legal mechanisms used in the United Nations, the contents of international resolutions, and aspects of their implementation and follow-up were discussed.

Arrangements related to the UNITAD work team, the mechanism for implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2679 (2023) and meeting Iraq’s requirements regarding the implementation of the team’s mandate were also discussed, including making arrangements regarding the completion of the stages and procedures for the liquidation and closure of the team’s work in September of this year.
