Major General Fouad Al-Rikabi, Chairman of the National Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons and a member of the Iraqi delegation, participated in the eighth meeting of the work program on small arms and weapons. During the meeting, he presented the country’s national statement that confirmed:

• Conjoining efforts and showing the necessary flexibility and political will to reach measures and procedures that include the effective and comprehensive implementation of the program of work to meet the challenges arising from the negative phenomena of the indiscriminate proliferation of small arms and light weapons and their illicit trade.
• The dangerous effects and catastrophic consequences of this indiscriminate spread, which are the loss of lives, destabilization of security and stability, and fueling and prolonging conflicts.
• Negative repercussions on the economic, social and environmental levels alike
• Highlighting the positive steps taken by the Government of Iraq in this field in a way that supports the international efforts exerted and in a way that enhances international and regional peace and security
