Security Council holds a session to discuss the eighth report of the international investigation team UNITAD

The Security Council held a session chaired by Albania to discuss the eighth report of the international investigation team UNITAD to collect, preserve and store evidence in Iraq of crimes committed by the terrorist organization Daesh.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, presented Iraq’s speech, which included a number of pivotal points to assess the team’s course of action and the results achieved from them:

  • The Iraqi government, in addition to its efforts in facilitating the work of the international team through its specialized institutions, is closely monitoring all activities undertaken by the team to achieve the goals of prosecuting and prosecuting all those involved in ISIS terrorist crimes
  • The governmental and popular aspiration in Iraq for the team to exert more efforts, with the support of the international community, to complete the tracks that have reached advanced stages in collecting and documenting the crimes committed against the Iraqi people.
  • The collection, preservation and storage of evidence about the crimes of the terrorist organization ISIS in Iraq, and submission to the Iraqi judiciary for fair trials, which is the only path to achieve justice and redress for the victims.
  • Iraq appreciates the amount of work submitted by the international team and its challenges, and at the same time stresses the need to prepare a strategic plan and in cooperation with the Iraqi National Coordinating Committee in order to achieve tangible goals for the team’s work.
  • Emphasize the commitment of the Government of Iraq to cooperate with the international investigation team to support and assign its mandate in accordance with full respect for Iraqi sovereignty and its jurisdiction over the crimes committed on its territory and against its people.
  • The Government of Iraq highly appreciates the efforts of the international investigation team and the progress made in the team’s activities, exchanging experiences with Iraqi national cadres, and shedding light on the extent of violations suffered by the Iraqi people at the hands of the terrorist organization ISIS
