Iraq as facilitator of the Political Declaration of the Economic and Social Council and the High Level Political Forum

During 2021, the United Nations will hold a high-level forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and a high-level political forum for sustainable development (HLPF) under the slogan

“Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”

President of the ECOSOC Mr. Munir Akram appointed new co-facilitators of the 2021 ECOSOC High Level forum and HLPF Ministerial Declaration, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Hussein Bahr AlUloom Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations and H.E. Ambassador Jukka Salovaara Permanent Representative of the Republic of Finland to the United Nations.

Ambassador Bahr AlUloom, while thanking the President of the ECOSOC for his trust, said Iraq accepted the responsibility with a total understanding of the tremendous amount of work needs to be done.

He added Iraq and Finland will work closely with all Member States to pave the way for a comprehensive outcome.

COVID-19 overwhelmed the 2030 agenda with burdens that require more than consensus, it requires full engagement and momentum.

Less than a decade to 2030, it’s not quite enough, but it’s what we need to make a difference for the future generations and for our beloved earth.
