Iraq chairs the Asia-Pacific Group
Iraq assumed the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Group for the month of December 2020, It is one of the five major geographical groups of the United Nations, which includes in its membership 55 countries, which is approximately (27.5%) of the entire membership of the United Nations.
Iraq will chair and organize the group’s meetings, in addition to coordinate efforts among the member states to present constructive consensus vision for the group on the issues discussed by the UN and its subsidiary bodies.
In this regard, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Bahr al-Uloom, affirmed that the role of Iraq within the group is important, effective and balanced, All this will enable Iraq to carry out its duties as head of the group to work to enhance the development and economic capabilities of the member states, especially in light of the difficult conditions that the world is witnessing today as a result of the negative effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
