High level meeting to commemorate the Seventy-Fifth anniversary of the United Nations.

On Monday 9/21/2020, the high-level meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Most of the world’s leaders gave their speeches through pre-recorded videos because the Annual Meetings could not be held in the usual way due to Covis-19 pandemic.

Iraq is a founding member state of the United Nations, and a contributor to the drafting of the charter. Therefore, Iraq finds it important at this critical stage for the State-Members of the United Nations to speak in a collective and common voice about the crises facing the international community today, and to send the peoples a message of optimism and hope for the future.

Iraq also believes that the United Nations must remain the cornerstone of a multilateral international system, as the United Nations and its agencies need to work in partnership with all stakeholders to implement their mandates and decisions, as the Charter should be its main guide in this.
