Permanent Missionof the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations meets a request for new non-permanent members of the Security Council

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations has met the first initiative of its kind proposed by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Vietnam on behalf of the new Non-Permanent Members of the Security Council (Vietnam, Tunisia, Niger, Estonia and Saint Vincent) for the period 2020-2021, for a comprehensive review of Iraq’s files with the Security Council. This initiative is an expression of the great interest that the international community attaches to Iraq and its issues, as well as the openness of Iraq to engage more effectively with UN Member States on international issues of common concern. The meeting focused on the fruitful cooperation with the United Nations in general and the Security Council in particular with regard to the status of Iraq under Chapter VII, They exchanged views on the mechanisms of cooperation and exchange of information on the issues under discussion.

At the end of the meeting, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Vietnamese representative to organize this event, He expressed his full readiness to cooperate with the members of the Security Council in order to achieve common goals to make progress in Iraq’s relations with the Organization and enhance its contribution to various international issues.

And Iraq is keen to exploit all the opportunities of cooperation shown by other countries, which is constantly increasing as a result of Iraq adopting a balanced foreign policy of peace based on mutual cooperation and respect for the principles of international law, and to enhance opportunities for coordination and mutual cooperation, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq will organize an annual meeting with the new non-permanent members of the Security Council.
