Statement of Iraq in the third Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
Counselor Sarmad Mowaffak Mohamed delivered the statement of Iraq before the Third Preparatory Committee of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Review Conference 2020 under the Nuclear Disarmament, the statement expressed Iraq’s concern about the continued possession by the nuclear-weapon States of a large number of nuclear arsenal, about fifteen thousand nuclear weapons, in which it poses a great danger to both the human and the environment, despite the passage of nearly twenty-five years The indefinite extension of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The statement called on those countries to act seriously and urgently to eliminate these nuclear arsenals, because the total elimination of these weapons is the only guarantee not to use or threaten the use of nuclear weapons, to reach the ultimate goal of a world free of these devastating destructive weapons because of the disastrous effects pose A real threat to human existence on this planet.
