Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq participate in the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the resolution entitled “Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency”

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq participated in the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on 9/11/2018 to discuss the resolution entitled “Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency”.

He point out that; despite the challenges faced by the Iraqi government in the face of terrorism, it has taken many positive steps with regard to regulatory issues of nuclear and radiological work. Also, “the free Middle East region from nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction are one of the basic steps that contribute to the security and stability of this region” he added.

The delegation of Iraq also stressed that Israel’s initiation of its nuclear disarmament, its accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear party and the subordination of its nuclear facility to the comprehensive safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a very important and urgent necessity for the successful establishment of such a zone.
