Participation of the delegation of Iraq in the meetings of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) under agenda item 56

The delegation of Iraq participated in the meetings of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) under agenda item) 56(on the (Comprehensive review of the whole question of peacekeeping operations in all their aspects).

Mr. Nezar Hassan Alhakim/ First Secretary delivered a statement referred to the great role played by peacekeeping operations to resolve conflicts and help the relevant countries or communities to overcome the stage of instability and create conducive atmosphere to reach a perpetual peace agreement, in accordance with Goal 16 of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In addition, he called the UN to adhere to the basic principles governing the mandate of peacekeeping operations, namely the consent of the parties, the full neutrality of peacekeepers and the non-use of force, except for self-defense. As well as highlighting the decision of the Government of the Republic of Iraq to endorse the document of shared commitments and supporting the initiative of the Secretary-General entitled (Action for Peacekeeping – A4P).
