High-level side event on Countering the FTF Phenomenon

   

On the occasion of the High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States, The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Spain to the United Nations, in cooperation with UNODC, INTERPOL and the EU, organized a high-level side event in New York on 28 June 2018 titled “Countering the FTF Phenomenon: Combined Efforts of Police and Justice”.

The event was co-chaired by the Permanent Representatives of Iraq and Spain, and discussed existing administrative, legal and operational challenges pertaining to counter-FTF efforts. It also presented ongoing and upcoming initiatives and challenges, as well as best practices to counter the threat posed by Foreign Terrorist Fighters FTFs. The panel discussion was supported by Mr. Yuri Fedotov the Executive-Director of UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Mr. Jürgen Stoke, the Secretary-General of INTERPOL, Ms. Michele Connex, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), and from Iraq, as a keynote speaker, Major General Maher Najem Adbulhussein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Iraq for Intelligence and Criminal Investigations.
