Iraq Delivers Statement on Behalf of the Group of 77 and China on the Question of the Malvinas Islands

At the meeting of the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) held on 25 June 2026, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Lukman Faily, delivered a statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China on the Question of the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia Islands and South Sandwich Islands.
In its statement, the Group reaffirmed its longstanding support for a peaceful resolution of the sovereignty dispute through dialogue and negotiations, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant General Assembly resolutions.
The Group also reiterated the need for the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations, in line with the principles and objectives of the Charter of the United Nations, with a view to reaching a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute.
The statement underscored the Group’s continued commitment to the principles of international law, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions concerning the Question of the Malvinas Islands.
