Chargé d’Affairs delivers Iraq’s statement at the Security Council session
The Security Council held a closed session this morning, Thursday 5/16/2024, to consider the periodic report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the work of the UNAMI mission in Iraq.
Ms. Jeanine Plasschaert, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the Iraq Assistance Mission (UNAMI), presented her periodic briefing to the Security Council, reviewing the events and developments in Iraq.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, Iraq’s statement at the session explaining the positive developments and achievements that Iraq is witnessing at all political, security and economic levels. He Pointed to the balanced role that Iraq plays in regional and international relations in accordance with its constructive and productive diplomacy.
He touched on the governmental program o, which focuses on economic reform, providing services, development, and fighting corruption, where he praised the cooperation between Iraq and sectoral government institutions with the UNAMI mission and the UN agencies working in Iraq.
In their statements, the member states of the Council praised the progress achieved in Iraq.
