Charge d’Affaires delivers Iraq’s statement at the tenth special emergency session regarding full membership of Palestine in the United Nations.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, delivered a statement on behalf of the Republic of Iraq at the special session of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the resolution to recognize the State of Palestine and grant it full membership in the United Nations. where, he referred to Iraq’s accession and sponsorship of the resolution presented by the Arab Group, stressing the importance of the State of Palestine joining the United Nations and granting it full membership in accordance with the United Nations Charter, due to its relevance and legitimacy, and proving Iraq’s solidarity and support for the Palestinian cause, as well as to support the Palestinians to decide to achieve their aspirations and their right to self-determination as well as the establishment of their Independent state on the land of Palestine, with its capital, Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
“obstructing the recognition of the right of the Palestinian to recognize their state and granting Palestine membership in the United Nations contradicts the legal and historical responsibility of the international community towards ending the occupation” He added.
The Chargé d’Affaires, also, confirmed Iraq’s position of distancing itself from some of the phrases and terms included in the resolution because they are not compatible with Iraqi national legislation.
