Charge d’Affaires meets with the Commissioner-General of UNRWA
The Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, met with Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The Chargé d’Affaires stressed Iraq’s support for UNRWA and the importance of its continuation of work and the field roles it carries out. Adding that Iraq highly appreciates the sincere efforts made by Mr. Philippe Lazzerini and UNRWA and its vital role in providing relief to millions of Palestinian people over the past seven decades.
The Chargé d’Affaires Appreciates the efforts of all UNRWA employees to continue their work despite the attacks they and their locations were subjected to and the loss of the lives of their colleagues and families, and for conveying the tragic picture, the extent of the suffering and the inhumane conditions that the Palestinian people are experiencing as a result of the crimes and massacres committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people.
The Chargé d’Affairs conveyed the greetings of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as extended an invitation to visit Iraq to confirm Iraq’s commitment to supporting UNRWA.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA expressed his gratitude to the Government of Iraq for its support and assistance to the work of the Agency, appreciating the invitation extended to him and that he would be pleased to accept it and visit Iraq.
