Permanent Representative of Iraq, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom Delivers Iraq’s speech before the third session of the conference on the establishment of a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction

On Monday, 11/14/2022, The Permanent Representative of Iraq, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, delivered Iraq’s speech before the third session of the conference on the establishment of a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, which is currently holding its work in New York for the period 14-18 / 2022/11

The statement referred to the intensification of regional and international tensions and the escalation of conflicts in the international security environment, which have cast negative shadows on regional and international peace and security. All of us require concerted efforts and more flexibility to move forward in achieving tangible steps to promote peace and stability, especially in the Middle East region.

Iraq stressed the importance of working to promote the universality of international agreements and treaties, especially those concerned with the complete elimination of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, by all concerned parties in the Middle East, and full compliance with them without discrimination through negotiation within the multilateral framework, and the implementation of their provisions without discrimination. It is the easiest and shortest way to achieve our aspired goal of establishing a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, in addition to its extreme importance in establishing international peace and security and reaching common and practical solutions.

The Permanent Representative of Iraq stressed the importance of this conference and these steps and efforts being a parallel and supportive path to other paths towards establishing the target region and not to be a substitute for the Middle East Resolution of 1995 and what was approved by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conferences of 2000 and 2010.

Ambassador Bahr Al-Uloom also expressed his disappointment at the failure of the Tenth Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to adopt a consensual final document, which requires the international community in particular and the three sponsors of the 1995 resolution on the Middle East to exert more efforts and show political will to implement this resolution, which More than 27 years have passed since its approval without achieving its desired goals.
