The Arab Group, chaired by Iraq, held a meeting at the level of experts with the delegation of the European Union at the headquarters of the latter’s mission in New York on Wednesday, October 26, 2022
Counselor Sarmad Mowaffaq Al-Taei thanked the European Union mission for this initiative, which constitutes an occasion for exchanging views, especially in light of the many common goals between the two sides in the importance of supporting efforts aimed at disarmament.
In his national capacity, he reviewed Iraq’s initial positions and its supportive national lungs regarding any initiative and decision that contribute to supporting multilateral efforts aimed at disarmament and arms control, and in a manner that contributes to strengthening regional peace and security.
He stressed the need to take concrete steps regarding the establishment of a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
The meeting was successful and fruitful, as it witnessed the exchange of views and opinions between Arab experts and European Union experts regarding the draft resolutions to be adopted during the part related to the adoption of resolutions from the work of the First Committee in its 77th session of 2022.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed on the importance of continuing this initiative and enhancing coordination between the two sides in a way that contributes to achieving the common goals of supporting efforts to promote regional and international peace and security.
