Foreign Minister meets Canadian Foreign Minister in New York

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Melanie Jolie, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held in New York.

During the meeting, they discussed various aspects of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Ottawa, and ways of cooperation in various fields. The Minister stressed the importance of achieving partnership between Iraq and Canada, praising Canada’s efforts within the international coalition to combat the terrorist organization ISIS.

Minister Fuad Hussein touched on the internal situation and the movement it is witnessing by the political forces in order to reach common solutions to hold a session of the House of Representatives in the coming days, with the aim of forming a government.

The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern, stressing the need to work to reduce tension and achieve calm in the region, and to avoid escalation that would not serve any party.

For her part, Mrs. Melanie Jolie, Canadian Foreign Minister, expressed her country’s support for Iraq’s efforts to achieve security and stability, stressing the continuation of cooperation between the two countries, working towards calm, and preventing escalation.
