H.E. Dr. Khaled Batal Al-Najm, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, meets with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, to discuss cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations in the field of development and building national capacities according to agreed tracks and according to Iraqi priorities.
H.E. Dr. Khaled Batal Al-Najm, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, to discuss cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations in the field of development and building national capacities according to agreed tracks and according to Iraqi priorities.
H.E. His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Najm affirmed Iraq’s support for the resident coordinator system, which is the cornerstone in the process of rearranging the United Nations development system.
He praised the role of Ms. Irina Solorano, the Resident Coordinator in Iraq, in signing the Framework for Action for Sustainable Development Cooperation 2020-2024, which is in line with Iraq’s national priorities and in accordance with the National Development Plan.
He expressed the Iraqi government’s aspiration to activate a smooth transition from the humanitarian context to the development context, in order to focus on Iraq’s priorities of addressing climate change, drought and desertification, combating sand and dust storms, and the sustainable management of transboundary water resources.
For her part, Mrs. Amina Mohammed welcomed the Iraqi participation in the work of the high-level political forum, which sends a positive message of Iraq’s commitment to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and expresses the desire to visit Iraq in the near future.
