Iraq participated in the annual coordination meeting of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism to discuss the activities and achievements within the framework of the international covenant to combat terrorism during the year 2021. The Permanent Representative of Iraq, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, delivered a speech that focused on the following themes:

  • Call for uniting efforts to combat terrorism and not to politicize this sensitive file

  • Emphasizing the call for all concerned member states to return their nationals detained on terrorism charges from Iraq and Syria and ensuring accountability.
  • Iraq’s priorities in the field of combating terrorism for the next stage in light of the recent field developments.
  • Iraq’s appreciation for the role of the United Nations, especially the Office of Counter-Terrorism, and the personal efforts of Under-Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov in supporting Iraq’s efforts to combat terrorism in the field of building Iraqi national capacities.
  • Iraq’s continuation of efforts to combat terrorism in cooperation with partners, allies and friends regionally and internationally, in a manner that guarantees the security of Iraq and the region, especially the recent operation in cooperation between the Iraqi security services and the coalition forces in targeting the leader of ISIS in Idlib, Syria.
