Minister of Justice meets with the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism

His Excellency the Minister of Justice, Judge Salar Abdul Sattar Muhammad, met with the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, on the sidelines of the Second High-level Conference of National Anti-Terrorism Agencies.

His Excellency reviewed the national efforts in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism. He also provided an overview of the challenges facing Iraq in the relevant fields, particularly regarding prison management.

His Excellency also shared the fruitful experiences pursued by Iraq, including the moderation program applied in Iraqi prisons for the purpose of combating violent extremism. The two sides also discussed Iraq’s appeals to the international community to return the families of foreign terrorists present in Iraq.

For his part, the Under Secretary-General, valued the relevant Iraqi efforts, and expressed the importance of the information and experiences that Iraq shares with the international community, stressing the keenness of his office to strengthen bilateral cooperation and implement new capacity-building programs designed to support Iraq in the near future.
