Minister of Justice meets Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of Counter-Terrorism
Minister of Justice, Judge Salar Abdul Sattar Muhammad, met with Michèle Coninsx, Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of Counter-Terrorism, to discuss current challenges and emerging risks associated with terrorism, and national efforts to eliminate terrorism and violent extremism.
The Minister of Justice reviewed the national legislation through which the competent national authorities seek to ensure judicial accountability for the crimes committed by ISIS, achieve justice for the victims, and document crimes against humanity.
Ms. Coninsx stressed that the Secretary-General and the United Nations agencies are following with great interest the governmental measures in Iraq in the field of achieving justice, prosecuting terrorists, urging countries to return their nationals from the families of foreign terrorists and preparing for cooperation in the context of strengthening Iraq’s capabilities in combating terrorism.
