Head of the International Organizations and Conferences Department delivered Iraq’s statement in the Security Council

On behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fouad Hussein, Ambassador Ahmed Barwari, Head of the International Organizations and Conferences Department, participated in the open session of the Security Council, entitled: Maintaining peace and international security: a comprehensive review of security in the Gulf region, on October 20, 2020, where he delivered the minister’s speech , In which he indicated:

Affirming Iraq’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter represented in respecting the independence of states, non-interference in internal affairs, good neighborliness, settlement of disputes by peaceful means, and refraining from the use or threat of force.

One of the most important priorities of the Iraqi foreign policy now is to expand cooperation with the Gulf states, to create a broad and common Gulf area. The current policy of Iraq is based on the principle of dialogue, communication, and building good and balanced relations to solve all problems. Also, Iraq deals positively with all initiatives that lead to stabilizing security and stability in the Gulf.

Iraq calls for adopting a realistic view that the security of the Gulf is the responsibility of all riparian states, and the necessity to provide the minimum in any initiative, speech, or security proposal, which is not to exclude any party. the security of Iraq depends on the security of the Gulf region, and Gulf security is the responsibility of all the states bordering on it, and it cannot be divided under any circumstances.
