Permanent Representative addressed Iraq’s speech before the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference 2020
The Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Uloom, addressed Iraq’s speech before the Third Preparatory Committee for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference 2020, which is currently holding its meetings in New York for the 29 April – 10 May, 2019.
The statement stressed that the promotion of the universality of the treaties on weapons of mass destruction, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, is the only guarantee to reduce the catastrophic effects of nuclear weapons. The Permanent Representative of Iraq reiterated Iraq’s support for any initiative aimed at reducing the threat of such weapons. He stressed the importance of balanced implementation of the three pillars of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
