Ambassador meets the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee of the Russian State Duma

On February 20, 2020, Ambassador Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Al-Hussaini met Mr. Nikolai Nikolayev, Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee of the Russian State Duma, to discuss the bilateral relations and the ways of cooperation between the two countries in the field of the natural resources management.

Ambassador pointed out to that Iraq is a country which is rich with natural resources and that the management of these resources requires access to the experiences of other countries, including Russia, expressing Iraq desire to cooperate with Russia by organizing meetings and exchanging visits between the relevant committees of the parliaments of both countries to review legislation and laws related to natural resources, especially water resources, and the possibility of training Iraqi cadres specialized in this regard, and opening cooperation channels between the Center for the reviving of Al-Ahwar and wetlands in Iraq and the relevant authorities in Russia.

Ambassador also discussed the possibility of speeding up the signing of the draft Memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources and the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, indicating that signing this Memorandum will contribute in drawing the framework for a wide cooperation between the two countries in the field of natural resources and their protection.          For his part, Mr. Nikolai Nikolayev stated that Russia is ready to provide full support to Iraq in this field.
