Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Minister for Middle East at British Foreign Office
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the Minister for Middle East and North Africa at the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Mr. Hamish Falconer, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh, held in Washington on Monday, September 30, 2024.
During the meeting, the Minister indicated the serious challenges facing the region in light of the current events, expressing Iraq’s concern regarding the escalation of tensions. He stressed the importance of calmness and a ceasefire, in addition to the necessity of providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced affected by these crises.
The Minister affirmed that Iraq and Britain have long-standing historical ties, highlighting Iraq’s willingness to strengthen these relations across various fields, especially in light of the current challenges. The meeting also addressed the issue of illegal immigration, calling on developing understandings and common solutions that ensure the safety of all, while adhering to relevant agreements and laws.
On his part, Minister Falconer emphasized the importance of activating cooperation between the two countries in the fields of investment and economy, and enhancing trade exchange. He also expressed his hope for a visit by the Prime Minister to Britain soon, indicating his aspiration to visit Iraq personally within the framework of enhancing bilateral cooperation. At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation in facing regional and international challenges.
