Birth Certificate
Requirements for Issuing an Iraqi Birth Certificate:
1- The Original British birth certificate (A4) must be legalized by the British Foreign Office, along with two colour copies (the birth must have taken place in the United Kingdom), and the British birth certificate should be translated into Arabic by a certified translator.
2- National ID card or (Civil Status ID and Iraqi Citizenship Certificate) for both parents (original + two copies of each).
3- If the marital status remains unchanged(Single) in the spouses’ documents, an Iraqi marriage certificate or a British marriage certificate legalized by the British Foreign Office, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the marriage had happened is needed, and must be certified by the Iraqi embassy in that country.
4- Complete the online application form for a birth certificate through the Consulate website below:

Important Notes:
1- The child’s father (if the child is under 18 years of age) must be present at the consulate. If the child’s mother wanted to come instead, she must provide a power of attorney from her husband for the purpose of issuing Iraqi birth certificates for their children, or the mother must hold a guardianship document legalized by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2- The full name of both the father and the mother on the British birth certificate must match with those on the Iraqi documents (National ID). If there is a discrepancy, a certified statement matching the names by a certified solicitor is required and must be legalized by the British Foreign Office.
3- Iraqi birth certificates are issued only to children born in the United Kingdom.
4- Iraqi birth certificates are issued only once.
Fees for issuing an Iraqi birth certificate:
1- If the birth occurred before 23/09/2024, the issuance fees are as follows:
– Birth certificate issuance fee: £23.
– Late fee: £9.
2- If the birth occurred after 23/09/2024, the issuance fees are as follows:
– Birth certificate issuance fee: £23.
– Late fee of £19 for applications submitted after (two months) from the date of birth.
– Late fee of £58 for each month for applications submitted after (six months) from the date of birth.
