The Consulate General in Manchester Celebrates Sovereignty Day

The Consulate General of the Republic of Iraq in Manchester today, Monday, 5 October 2026, commemorated Sovereignty Day.

The Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Counsellor Manal Abdul-Sattar Khalil, delivered a speech in which she emphasised that these anniversaries represent cherished national occasions in the hearts of Iraqis, highlighting the profound national significance they carry and the sense of joy they evoke among the Iraqi people on these momentous occasions.

In her address, she paid tribute to the great sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and security services in all their branches and formations, stressing that they have been, and remain, the steadfast shield defending the homeland and safeguarding its land and people. She also commended the immense sacrifices they made in defence of Iraq.

She affirmed that commemorating these national occasions represents a renewal of the pledge and loyalty to all those who made sacrifices for Iraq, as well as an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of national belonging and reinforce the values of unity and solidarity among members of the Iraqi community in the United Kingdom.
