Signing of a Scientific and Cultural Memorandum of Understanding Between Imam Jaafar Al-Sadiq University and Sunway University, Malaysia
The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur hosted the signing ceremony of a scientific and cultural Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Iraqi University of Imam Jaafar Al-Sadiq (Peace be upon him) and Malaysia’s Sunway University on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The event took place at the Malaysian university’s premises, with the embassy represented by Counselor Ahmed Ghanim Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Head of Mission, and the Cultural and Media Affairs Officer, Second Secretary Maha Jassim.
The ceremony began with a presentation on Sunway University, presenting its history, departments, and student population. This was followed by the signing of the MoU between Dr. Fares Kamel Hassan, Assistant President of Imam Jaafar Al-Sadiq University, and Dr. Sibran Puviman, President of Sunway University.
The memorandum included provisions aimed at enhancing academic cooperation, such as faculty and student exchanges, organizing workshops and training programs, and conducting joint scientific research. Both sides emphasized the importance of this partnership in achieving academic excellence and advancing higher education, expressing their aspirations to realize shared goals that would benefit both institutions and strengthen scientific collaboration between Iraq and Malaysia.
In turn, Deputy Head of Mission Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar highlighted the significance of this event as the beginning of a partnership between the two universities at the academic and scientific levels. He noted that this collaboration would yield many positive outcomes in terms of academic and scientific relations between Iraq and Malaysia. He further stressed that academic cooperation serves as a bridge connecting Iraq – known as the cradle of human civilization and a land of promising opportunities for the future – and Malaysia, a country rich in history, progress, unique culture, and high-quality education and international academic research.
