IRAQ’S AMBASSADOR TO UKRAINE MEETS FIRST DEPUTY MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF UKRAINE

On September 15, 2020, His Excellency Mr. Bakir Ahmed Al-Jaff, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine met with H.E. Mrs. Emine Dzhaparova, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine at the Ministry’s headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. Mrs. Emine Dzhaparova welcomed H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff, and reviewed the friendly and cooperative relations between Iraq and Ukraine in various fields, especially in the political, economic, military and cultural areas, noting the importance of developing bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries. H.E. Mrs. Emine Dzhaparova also stressed the need to organize exchange visits between Iraqi and Ukrainian government officials, who are involved in trade and investment affairs, especially the Ministers of Trade and Chambers of Commerce as well as to encourage companies and businessmen to invest in both countries.

For his part, H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff expressed his gratitude to the H.E. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for the warm reception and hospitality, and confirmed the depth of bilateral relations between Iraq and Ukraine, and the keenness of H.E. the Minister of  Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Fuad Hussein to develop these relations in all areas of common interest, particularly in relation to the next session of the Iraqi-Ukrainian Joint Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. In this regard H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff proposed to hold the next session of the Commission in Kyiv in January 2021.

H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff also touched on Iraq’s foreign relations, and noted that Iraq enjoys close relations with its neighboring countries and the rest of the world. During the meeting the two sides exchanged views on issues of common interest. H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff called for the necessity of tackling obstacles faced by Iraqis entering Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff presented a gift of a memorial plaque symbolizing the Mesopotamian civilization to the H.E. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and for her part, Mrs. Dzhaparova presented a gift of book on the civilization of Ukraine to H.E. Ambassador.
