EXCEPTIONAL FLIGHT OF THE IRAQI AIRWAYS FROM KYIV TO IRAQ

On May 7, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. (Kyiv time), an exceptional flight of the “Iraqi Airways” left the Ukrainian airspace heading to Erbil and then to Baghdad with 186 Iraqis on board seeking to the Homeland in the framework of Iraq’s efforts to bring back stranded Iraqis from abroad.

The flight was arranged through continuous and active coordination between His Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine, Mr. Bakir Ahmed Al-Jaff and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Kurdistan Regional Government-Iraq as well as via close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affair of Ukraine and Competent Ukrainian Authorities in the field of Civil Aviation and Border Crossing Points. The procedures prescribed obtaining an official permit for the “Iraqi Airways” plane to conduct exceptional flight along with taking all necessary measures to ensure the plane’s landing and taking off.

H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff headed the Embassy’s delegation arriving at the Boryspil International Airport to complete the travel procedures of the departing Iraqis and resolve any difficulty they might encounter, which was met with a great satisfaction from the members of the Iraqi Community in Ukraine, who highly appreciated the efforts made by H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff and the Embassy staff, and all those who contributed to facilitating the successful completion of this exceptional flight – particularly in view of the suspension of the Civil Aviation flights between Iraq and Ukraine due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) quarantine measures.
