IRAQ’S AMBASSADOR TO UKRAINE RECEIVES FORMER PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO

On July 6, 2020 His Excellency Mr. Bakir Ahmed Al-Jaff, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine received at the Embassy’s headquarters His Excellency former President of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yushchenko.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff welcomed the Esteemed Guest and reviewed the relations of friendship and cooperation between Iraq and Ukraine, praising Ukraine’s continued support for the Iraqi Government in its fight against terrorist organizations and their criminal operations, aimed at targeting  civilians and destabilizing the political and security situation in the country. H.E. Mr. Ambassador stressed the Iraqi Government’s sincere desire to provide safe conditions for Ukrainian investment companies and businessmen in the Iraqi market, especially since Ukraine is a priority country alongside other friendly countries, which sent military troops to Iraq to support the Iraqi Armed Forces in establishing security after the fall of the dictatorship in 2003. H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff also noted that the visit of H.E. Mr. Viktor Yushchenko to Iraq in December 2005 as President of Ukraine to support democratic transition in the country will forever remain in the memory of the Iraqi people.

For his part, former Ukrainian President H.E. Mr. Yushchenko expressed gratitude to H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff for the warm reception and hospitality, and highly appreciated the Iraqi Government’s keenness to develop relations with Ukraine in various fields, particularly in the fields of culture and science, taking into consideration the rich ancient cultural heritage of the two countries. H.E. Mr. Yushchenko also confirmed his solidarity with the people and Government of Iraq in their determination to build a prosperous country and regain its distinguished position at both the regional and international levels, so as play its leading role in maintaining international peace and security.

It is worth noting that His Excellency Mr. Viktor Yushchenko was the third President of Ukraine (from January 23, 2005 to February 25 2010). A few years before his presidency he assumed the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine for the period from 1999 to 2001.
