IRAQ’S AMBASSADOR TO UKRAINE ATTENDS THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE FIRST SESSION OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE OF THE 9TH CONVOCATION
On August 29, 2019 H.E. Mr. Bakir Ahmed Al-Jaff, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine attended the opening ceremony of the first session of the newly elected Ukrainian Parliament of the 9th Convocation. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian Parliament) and attended by a number of high ranking Ukrainian officials, including H.E. President of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, former Prime Minister of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Groysman, former Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament H.E. Mr. Andriy Parubiy, as well as the newly elected parliamentarians, Heads of Foreign Diplomatic Missions accredited to Ukraine, prominent Ukrainian political, social, cultural and religious figures along with representatives of local and foreign mass media.
The newly elected members of the Parliament of the 9th Convocation (423 out of 450 people’s deputies of Ukraine – Constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada) took the oath of office immediately after opening of the session. After that, the Verkhovna Rada formed 5 political fractions and one parliamentary group as well as 23 parliamentary committees. Besides, the MPs elected Mr. Dmytro Razumkov as Chairman of the new Ukrainian Parliament and appointed his 2 deputies.
During the session, the Verkhovna Rada elected Mr. Oleksiy Honcharuk as Prime Minister of Ukraine and approved the new Cabinet of Ministers, including deputies of the Head of the Government and ministers.
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Al-Jaff congratulated the newly elected H.E. Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and H.E. Prime Minister of Ukraine on assuming their posts and wished them continued success in performing their duties for the benefit of Friendly Ukraine, thereby contributing to strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and Ukraine.
