The Permanent Representative meets with Saudi counterpart

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Dr Hussain Mahmood Alkhateeb paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Geneva, His Excellency Ambassador Mr Abdulaziz Alwasil on 14th June 2019, accompanied byMinister Plenipotentiary Ms Mayada Abdul Hadi.

Following exchanges of greetings and courtesy, a number of topics were discussed during the meeting:

  • Ambassador Alkhateeb conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Mohamed Ali Alhakim to the Saudi ambassador and praised the progress in relations between the two brotherly countries and Iraq’s welcome to develop the distinguished relations.
  • H.E Alkhateeb underscored Iraq’s willingness to play an active and positive role in calming the tense situation in the region, and to settle and resolve differences between the neighbouring countries via peaceful means.
  • The esteemed ambassadors discussed the nature of the multifaceted work in Geneva that varies from technical to political and humanitarian matters, and the extent of coordination and harmony that prevails and characterizes the work of the Arab Group.

At the end of the meeting, the Saudi Ambassador wished H.E Alkhateeb success in his new duties and agreed to meet in the upcoming period to serve the relations enjoyed between the two countries and the work of the Arab Group in Geneva.
