Foreign Minister Affirms that Iraq Pursues a Balanced Policy, and Distances itself from Bias Policy
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Swedish MP Sara Skyttedal, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Relations with Iraq.
During the meeting, security, political, economic and health developments in Iraq were discussed, and files of common interest between the two sides in addition to ways to activate the work of the Iraq Committee to be a powerful voice for Iraq in European institutions.
Minister Fuad Hussein reviewed the developments of the political situation in Iraq and the region, and the Iraqi government’s preparations to organize elections in accordance with standards and conditions that restore the Iraqi people’s confidence in the viability of political participation, indicating that Iraq is pursuing a balanced policy and distancing itself from bias policy and the government seeks dialogue with neighboring countries within the framework of not compromising the sovereignty of Iraq.
The Minister also gave a brief presentation on the Iraqi government’s efforts in combating terrorism and protecting and preserving the rights of all components of the Iraqi people, stressing the government’s seriousness in pursuing outlaws and those carrying out assassinations against human rights activists.
On her part, MP Skyttedal explained that the Iraq Committee is the official channel of communication with the European Parliament, revealing that she intended to visit Iraq had it not been for the Coronavirus pandemic, stressing that it would work to strengthen parliamentary and official relations between the two sides, expressing the committee’s support for the democratic political path in Iraq and her confidence in the possibility of conducting fair and transparent elections, and praised Iraq’s balanced position in the region, affirming that it will transfer Iraq’s views to European decision-making centers.
The MP expressed her desire to host the Minister in a high-level conference of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in partnership with other European institutions to exchange views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region in order to mobilize opinion in favor of Iraq issues in the European Parliament.
