Ambassador Al-Rikabi meets with the Chair of Delegation for Relation with Iraq in he European Parliament

On 3/31/2021, Ambassador Sadiq Al-Rikabi received at the Iraqi Embassy  premises in Brussels the Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament Spanish MEP (H.E.M Domenec Ruiz Devesa).

 During the meeting, the prospects for cooperation between the two sides were discussed including possible  ways to enhance the work of the Delegation for Relations with  Iraq in the European Parliament and how to fully implement  the mutual obligations in the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Iraq and the European Union.

The two sides discussed in detail the fruitful cooperation between the Embassy and the Chair of Iraqi  Delegation during  the past period, which witnessed working together to move forwards issues of mutual interest to both sides, such as the delisting  Iraq from the European Union’s list of high-risk countries in combating money laundering and terrorist financing (AML / CFT) and the the ongoing Turkish aggressions and violation of  Iraqi sovereignty

The ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the efforts of Mr DEVESA in revitalizing the delegation work in the past period and his continuous follow-ups, which was reflected in the the number of delegation  meetings and  the issuance of official statements in his capacity as chair of Iraq delegation in EP that kept pace with the Iraqi events.

MEP thanked the ambassador for his reception and cooperation with the Delegation and stressed that this cooperation is fruitful and in the interests of both parties, especially that Iraq is an important political, economic and security partner for the European Union. Mr Devesa indicated that he will work, in coordination with the embassy, to arrange a visit for him to Baghdad at the earliest opportunity. to enable him to fully understand the Iraqi situations in order for him further enhance the level of cooperation between the two sides.
