The ambassador meets the German MEP (Alexandra Geese), member of the Delegation for Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament

Ambassador Sadiq Al-Rikabi met on 28/1/2020, at the European Parliament in Brussels with  German Deputy (Alexandra Geese) from the Free European Alliance Group and the Greens Gathering (Greens / EFA) Member in the Delegation for Relation With Iraq in the European Parliament

During the meeting, they discussed cooperation prospects between the two sides and ways to enhance the work of the delegation for relation with Iraq in the European Parliament, in a way that serves the development of bilateral relations and ensure  the implementation of mutual obligations in the partnership and cooperation agreement between Iraq and the European Union. Views were also exchanged on the most important international and regional issues of common concern.

The Ambassador presented a summary of the latest developments in the situation in Iraq and the region, and stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of Iraq and the need for the European Union to play a greater Role in the Region , because of its neutrality and acceptability, to deescalate tensions and  crises as well as continue its  political and economic support for Iraq, because the stability of Iraq means stability in the Middle East and Europe .

 MEP (Geese) stressed the need to accelerate the formation of the new government and work quickly to achieve the demands of the demonstrators, especially in the basic services dossier , and stressed that she will work through the delegation  for Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament to support Iraq’s efforts to combat terrorism and support the reform process and protect Iraqi sovereignty .
