Ambassador Sadiq Al-Rikabi met with Mr. David Mcallister the Chair of the Committee of Foreign Affairs at the European Parliament (AFET)

Ambassador Sadiq Al-Rikabi has met today with Mr. David Mcallister the Chair of the Committee of Foreign Affairs at  the European Parliament (AFET) at his office in European Parliament building.

The Ambassador congratulated Mr. Mcallister on the occasion of  his re-election as Chair of  (AFET). The two sides discussed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and the EU. through activating the partnership and cooperation agreement (PCA).

The Ambassador also briefed Mr. Mcallister, on the political situation in Iraq and the region, pointing out  the positive role played by Iraq in alleviating the crisis and tensions in the Middle East.

Mr. Mcallister praised and welcomed Iraq’s balanced position on the current events in the region, and stressed EU support for Iraq politically and economically, and maintain its commitment for  the development of relations with Iraq at all levels.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Mcallister thanked the Ambassador for the visit and pointed out that (AFET) wishes to organize meetings for Iraqi officials at the legislative and executive levels for the purpose of briefing the European side on the developments in the political situation in Iraq.

Ambassador Al-Rikabi welcomed the proposal and promised to work towards achieving it as soon as possible.
