Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein: “We Have Discussed the Bilateral Relations and Regional Files with the Iranian Side”
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, has visited the Islamic Republic of Iran, where he met the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Ebrahim Raisi. He conveyed to His Excellency a verbal message from Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. They also discussed the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tehran, the security and political situation in Baghdad, and the developments of the regional and international situation and their repercussions on the security and stability of Iraq and the region.
His Excellency affirmed Iraq’s keenness to enhance the means of bilateral cooperation with Tehran in various fields, and the importance of concerted efforts at the regional and international levels, to confront extremism, end conflicts, and build bridges of trust and cooperation between Iraq and the neighbouring countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, and giving priority to the language of dialogue in order to create a secure and stable environment, confirming that the stability of Iraq is also important to its neighbour, Iran.
On his part, the Iranian president affirmed the Islamic Republic’s continued support to Iraq’s stability and security. In his dialogue with his Iranian counterpart, Mr Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the two sides discussed the enhancement of bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his intention to support and enhance the historic relations between Baghdad and Tehran, confirming his keenness to maintain the bilateral cooperation in various fields in the coming stage to realise the common interests of the two countries, and implement the memoranda of understanding already agreed upon with the Iraqi government.
The two sides exchanged visions and ideas on regional and international issues of common concern. They also discussed the developments and the challenges faced by the region, and the need to support peace and stability through concerted efforts.
From his part, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed his country’s keenness to deepen the bonds of relations between the two countries, expressing his thanks for Iraq’s stances which aimed at the de-escalation in the region.
Mr Fuad hussein also met the Iranian National Security Adviser, Mr Ali Shamkhani. During the meeting they discussed the bilateral relations and security Affairs, as well as the developments of the regional and international situation and their repercussions on the security and stability of Iraq and the region.
Minister Fuad Hussain emphasized the importance of joint action to enhance the security and stability in the region and focus on everything that would reduce tension, to realise the concept of Collective Security, pointing out that Iraq is still facing various challenges, including security challenges and confronting terrorism, and that any actions may prejudice Iraq’s security and stability will complicate the situation inside Iraq and its regional environment.
