The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq to Brussels Meets with Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Brussels Mr. Sadiq Al-Rakabi met at the European Parliament in Brussels with the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament Swedish MP Ms. Abeer Al-Sahlani.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects of cooperation between Iraq and the European Parliament, ways of enhancing and activating the two sides, and implementing the obligations stipulated in the Association and Cooperation Agreement.
The Ambassador called for more efforts to make the Committee on Relations with Iraq a success in the European Parliament, and urged the European Union with all its institutions to take its role in calming the situation in the Middle East, and support Iraq politically and economically by contributing to reconstruction, investment and support the sector.
The recent demonstrations in Iraq were also discussed, and Ambassador Al-Rikabi stressed that the right to demonstrate is constitutionally guaranteed, and that the government has issued a series of resolutions that will improve government performance, combat corruption, and contribute to social justice.
On her part, Ms. Al-Sahlani stressed that she will work for the success of the democratic experience of Iraq in the region, pointing out that this is one of the most important priorities of the European Union in its relationship with Iraq, and revealed her intention to hold a workshop next year at the European Parliament in the presence of Iraqi deputies, civil and legal activists to exchange experiences and the development of the parliamentary system in Iraq, expressing thanks to the Ambassador for his visit, calling for intensified cooperation between the two sides.
