Tripartite Meeting between Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim and his Egyptian and Jordanian Counterparts
The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim , the Foreign Minister of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr. Ayman Al-Safadi, and the Foreign Minister of Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Sameh Shoukry held a tripartite meeting on the sidelines of the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku.
The three Ministers discussed ways to implement the outcomes of the second summit, which brought together President Barham Saleh, His Majesty King Abdullah II, and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in New York last month as part of a tripartite framework aimed at achieving the common interests of the three countries and promoting Arab interests.
The Ministers touched on strengthening economic, developmental and cultural cooperation by creating opportunities to continue on what has been agreed in previous meetings.
They also discussed regional and international issues of common concern and developments in the region, including the Palestinian issue, the Syrian crisis, the war on terror, and the latest developments in the Yemeni and Libyan crises.
The two Ministers Mr. Sameh Shoukry and Mr. Ayman Al-Safadi affirmed their support to the Government of Iraq in its efforts to establish security, stabilize and achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
On his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry talked about his country’s endeavor to resolve the Renaissance Dam crisis with Ethiopia on the basis of international law and the rules of international legitimacy through a binding agreement that preserves the rights of the three countries Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. In this context, Minister Alhakim and Minister Al-Safadi affirmed that Jordan and Iraq stand with Egypt in its endeavor to protect its water rights and resolve the dispute through negotiations and in order to preserve its water security.
The Ministers also discussed the preparations for the conference on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone and weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East to be held on 18 November in New York.
The Ministers agreed to hold the next ministerial meeting in Amman early next month; in preparation for the upcoming tripartite summit at the level of leaders planned to be held in Baghdad.
