Iraq Celebrates Assuming Chairmanship of G77 and China at a High level Reception at United Nations

In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York organized a reception on the occasion of Iraq assuming the chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, the ceremony was attended by the permanent representatives of the member states of the United Nations, members of the Group of 77, and senior UN officials, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and solidarity among the member states of the group.

The ceremony was inaugurated by the Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and affirmed the importance of unity and cooperation among the member states to achieve common goals, as well he indicated that this moment represents a great pride for Iraq which is committed to working with all member states to fulfil the aspirations of the group.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein delivered a speech in which he expressed his gratitude to the member states for their confidence in Iraq’s leadership of this important group. The Minister stressed that Iraq’s assumption of this role reflects its willingness to enhance the collective progress of developing countries, and its commitment to cooperate in addressing pressing global challenges, such as climate change, poverty, and achieving the sustainable development goals.

Minister Hussein, underlined that this presidency as an opportunity to enhance multilateralism and collective action for a better future for all, stressing that the challenges facing member states require collective solidarity and translating shared aspirations into concrete actions. The ceremony concluded with a call to all countries to reaffirm their commitment to the United Nations Charter and the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, and to work together to ensure that no country or community is left behind. The attendees commended Iraq’s efforts and endeavors to enhance unity and collective action through this prominent international responsibility.
