Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Arrives in New York to Assume the Chairmanship of G 77 and China

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein arrived in New York on 13 January 2025, to participate in the handover ceremony of Iraq assuming the presidency of the Group of 77 and China for 2025. The Minister will hold meetings with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. António Guterres, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly Mr. Philemon Yang. 

It is to be noted that Iraq accomplished a remarkable diplomatic achievement by being officially elected to chair the Group of 77 and China during the forty-eighth annual meeting which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on September 27, 2024, with the participation of Minister Fuad Hussein.

It is worth noting that the Group of 77 and China is the largest group of countries within the United Nations with 134 member states.
