Ninth Session of Iraqi-Omani Joint Committee Convenes to Enhance Bilateral Relations
The Iraqi-Omani Joint Committee held its ninth session on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Baghdad. The Iraqi side was headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, while the Omani side was headed by the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Mr. Badr Albusaidi.
Minister Fuad Hussein commended the historical and close ties between Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman, stressing the importance of strengthening these ties across various areas, to serve the common interests of the two brotherly countries.
The two ministers welcomed the convening of the committee’s work, emphasizing the importance of continuing to hold its regular meetings as a main platform for strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing issues of common concern.
On his part, Minister Badr Albusaidi commended Iraq’s efforts in supporting regional stability, praising its active role with regard to security issues in the region, as well the Omani Foreign Minister noted Iraq’s role in supporting the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, by providing humanitarian aid and contributing to alleviating the suffering of civilians.
Additionally, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the economic, commercial and cultural areas and facilitate academic and scientific exchange between the two countries. They also affirmed the importance of cooperation in the field of energy and the environment, which would contribute to enhancing sustainable development for both countries. The meeting ended with reiterating the need to implement the recommendations issued by the committee, while continuing joint work to achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi and Omani peoples.
