Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Non-Resident Nigerian Ambassador to Iraq

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aloolum received the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Iraq and residing in Kuwait, Mr. Murtala Jimoh, on 27 November 2024, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, with the attendance of the acting head of Africa Department Dr. Ghazi Al-Tubi.

Undersecretary Bahr Aloolum expressed Iraq’s welcome to the Nigerian government’s decision to reopen its embassy in Baghdad, noting that this step represents a paradigm shift that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, commending the depth of relations between Iraq and Nigeria especially in light of the presence of a large number of members of the Nigerian community in Iraq, he also stressed the positive developments Iraq witnessed across various fields, such as political stability and economic growth, which provide promising opportunities for joint cooperation.

The Undersecretary affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate the reopening of the Nigerian embassy and ensure the success of its missions, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the economic and development areas.

On his part the Nigerian Ambassador expressed his happiness to visit Iraq and his pride in being the first ambassador of his country in Baghdad after the reopening of the embassy, affirming Nigeria’s keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq across various fields, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly peoples.
